Surpaneshwar Shiva Temple - Surpaneshwar Shiva Temple Vadodara - Surpaneshwar Shiva Temple History - Travels & History

Surpaneshwar Shiva Temple :

Located around 77 kilometres for Vadodara near the town of Bharuch, the Surpaneshwar Shiva Temple is built where the Naramada river meets Dev river. This particular temple is one of the many Shiv temples in the area and is located near the Kevadia Dam that is surrounded by lush greenery. The amazing thing about this place is that the whirlpools formed in the river formed oblong rock formations that resembled the form of “Shivlingam”-a symbolic rock shape that is used to worship Lord Shiva. Over time, many people have come here in the past to take these ‘lingams’ back to their village/town where they were worshipped in local temples. An old temple that once was a famous spot here is now underwater. Currently, the Surpaneshwar Shiva Temple is all that remains of the place and has become an important religious attraction.

Today, even though the access to the river has changed and not many such rocks are formed anymore, the place has become a loved spot for its history, its religious reference and its beautiful environment. Take a hike around the forest area before you go to the temple to make the most of your trip.

Surpaneswar temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva; it is on the bank of Narmada river and only five km away from the Bharuch. The temple is surrounded by the forest of south Gujarat. Thus this peaceful location makes your mind cool and calm. Good place to spend quality time to get relaxed from daily busy schedule. Devotees can choose the transport option to reach temple by boat from bharuch instead of the bus or private vehicle to enjoy the natural world around Narmada River.
