According to legend, the area where Mahudi Jain Temple now stands was once a dense forest. It is said that a cowherd named Madhavsinh and his cow named "Maha" discovered a Jain idol while grazing in the forest. Overwhelmed by the discovery, Madhavsinh built a small shrine at the spot and began worshipping the idol.
Over time, devotees started visiting the shrine, and its popularity grew. Eventually, a larger temple complex was constructed to accommodate the increasing number of devotees. The temple complex expanded and underwent renovations and additions in subsequent years, resulting in the grand structure that stands today.
The temple gained prominence as a major Jain pilgrimage site due to its association with Lord Mahavir, the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism. Lord Mahavir is highly revered in Jainism as the enlightened soul who preached the principles of non-violence, truthfulness, and spiritual liberation.
